Products that we use and believe in are Drontal (or its equivalent) or Strongid for deworming and we deworm quarterly as well as taking samples from time to time to be sure we are not missing anything. Roundworms, Hookworms, Whipworms and Tapeworms are things we attempt to keep under control at all times. We believe if our dogs are wormy, they are not able to do their best, and we always want them looking good and shiny, and able to properly metabolize their food without the help of parasites!

Coccidia is a problem in kennels at times, and it can be pretty bad if the puppies contract this parasite. Coccidia is not a worm, but a protozoan, and in puppies it can be a devastating problem. Our veterinarian uses Albon if he finds Coccidia in a dog.

For control of Fleas and Ticks, we generally use Frontline Plus (fleas & ticks) or Advantix (fleas & ticks). Both are very good products used monthly during the months we need them to control these pests. If we are using Advantage Multi for Heartworm control (discussed on the Heartworm page) we may use a Preventic Tick Collar.

(Preventic Tick Collar for dogs kills and detaches ticks. When the collar is worn, prevention lasts for up to three months. Preventic Tick Collars prevent new ticks from attaching and feeding within 48 hours after application.) These are much better than the cheaper brands, in our opinion.
