Heartworm Control

Heartworms are a real threat in the South where we have lots of mosquitoes and we take prevention seriously. We have had to treat 2 dogs we have obtained and that is not an inexpensive process, so we decided to do our best to prevent the problem in the best way we could. We know that there are a lot of ways to handle this problem, but we decided to get advice from our veterinarian and we have followed his advice.
We use either Heartgard or Advantage Multi on a monthly basis. Most of the time we use the Advantage Multi because it is such a good product, but both are equally effective for heartworm prevention. Here is some helpful information on both. Check with your local veterinarian, or online, to see the benefits of both products!
We are not attempting to advertise for any company here, but simply to pass along the useful information we have been given. We do know about the monthly oral Ivermectin dosage that is used by many, but we have had to treat one dog for heartworms that was on such treatment and we have chosen to limit the number of dogs we own to the number that we can afford to treat per our veterinarian's advice.
